2 Shows Same Week!

Hey there, it's Dee~ whew it's been a busy couple of months and now it's half way through February! Happy belated Valentine's Day! Been enjoying the time I had painting for all these great shows.
First, I want to announce that I have a WEBSITE: www.deechavez.com WoooHOo!
It has been on the back burner awhile and I felt it needed to be made. SO, check it out and please feel free to send me a note in the about me page.  YAY~
My last months show was a lot of fun and really rewarding. The "Creepy Cute" show was a great event to show what I had been doing these past 4 months. I will do a entry after this one in a week or so, and I will place all the paintings from that show with some descriptions.
This entry is to show the last two pieces I did for two separate shows that happened in the same week! whew~ ;)
The first show is the Paintmonster Sapporo Myth 2013 in Sapporo, Japan. It opened last week Tuesday, Feb. 4th. It is the child of the past large group show I co-curated with Aaron Clark called     "L.A. Myth". Originally, this was going to be a traveling show, but it wasn't able to get off the ground until now. :) So, since I wasn't able to travel to Japan this week for this, my Friend Marty M. Ito put together and curated the "Sapporo Myth 2013" Exhibit!  Check the link for photos of the work. Here is my piece I sent over for the show.
Title: Wood Yeti
Med: Acrylic on Wood
Size: 10" x 10"
It looked like a fun party and apparently a lot of people showed up! Yay! Thank you Marty and Congrats!

The next show opened last night here in Culver City, Ca. at the gallery I regularly show at,
WWA Gallery. Last night's show was called "I believe in Unicorns, too!", a second installment of this fun, happy large group show. This piece is on display now at the gallery and also has prints available for purchase.

Title: Loonicorn & HamCat
Med: Acrylic on wood
Size: 10" x 12"

The Opening was a blast and it was really great to see lots of people share the spirit of the unicorn belief!
In the meantime, I recently started a new job at Nickelodeon Animation, so that's been keeping me pretty busy too. I have maybe one more show coming up, but the next post will be paintings from "Creepy Cute" Show! Thanks so much for visiting! RAWR!

Simultaneously bone-chilling and heart-melting is WWA Gallery’s first exhibit of 2013 “Creepy Cute” which opens Saturday, January 12th.

Bunny bounces out 2011 and into the Dragon 2012!

Hey fellow artists and friends! Wow, can you believe it's 2012 and already February!! Last year was good with work and my paintings. It was off to a good start in January! I was invited to be a part of a 5 person show called "SuperKickAss" @ The WWA Gallery in Culver City. I displayed 4 large pieces and Sold 3! I was super happy to be a part of such a great show and awesome group of artists. In February, I did a small piece for the WIA: Woman In Animation Group Show called " Goodness United". It was great to meet so many wonderful ladies in Animation! That piece was gifted. Next, in March, I did a piece for a show called "Shave and a Haircut" @ Monkeyhouse Toys. This piece was called "Mustache Melody". Had a lot of fun with this one and the colors were so saturated. ;) After this, I took on some freelance work(children's book illustrations), outside of work that kept me busy for 3 months. I then returned to do a piece for this year's "i am 8bit" Group Exhibition. This was super fun, got to meet lots of brilliant artists and I had my piece from the last 8_bit show in the 2nd vol. "Super i am 8-bit" Book! So I was a part of a small book signing panel, the week of the opening. ;) It was really cool to meet all those fans and experience a book signing. The piece I did for the show was called "Ready!" After that show, I did a small piece for a group show held at Carter Sexton Art Gallery and Supplies. It was called "Morning Glory" and it sold before the show started. :) I was super happy.
I wish I painted more, but I had a lot of work and freelance to work on, so I guess it balanced out. Very grateful to be able to work in what I do and happy to be able to have lovely fans like you to like what I do. ;)
This year is starting off great! I just did a small piece for a show called "VS. a show of Opposites".
It's an 18 person show Curated by Daisy Church. Click the link below or check it here:
http://www.meetup.com/San-Francisco-Lowbrow-Art/events/48727552/

Here is the piece I did:

SO I can't wait for what's to come of this Dragon Year. I am currently working on 2 pieces for two up coming shows and the end of this month. I will post more about it soon. My prediction for this new year, is that I will paint more and possibly larger pieces. In the meantime, Thanks so much for sticking with me and coming by to say hi! Love you guys!
Cheers~ <3 dee

SUPER i am 8 bit 2011!! Yay~

Hi all!
Here is my piece I did for the Super i am 8 bit 2011 Show! It was an AWESOME show. I attended the VIP Opening on Wed. night and it was a great turn out! Lots of Media/Press and Artists from the show enjoying themselves. The Main Show Opening was last night and over a 1,000 people showed up! Those 8 bit people really worked hard to get this whole show together and they had full success. Here is my piece I have in the show. Not sure if it Sold yet, but if your interested, please feel free to email me. ^_^
Title: Ready!
Medium: Acrylic on Wood with Oakwood frame
Size: 16"x 20"
Price: $700
Here are some details of the piece.

I like to play video games ever since I was a kid. Still play many today, but nothing beats a good 8bit game. These were two of my favorite games when I was young. Along with Tempest, but man, how I used spend a lot of quarters trying to kill that centipede. ;) I got the idea for this painting by imagining how Mrs. Pacman always chases the poor ghosts around, so what if the tables were turned and she was the hunted. It was a fun piece to do and made me want to play those games again, but I guess now I can just buy the app. hehee... I will post more images of the show on my flickr, so feel free to check them out~ Cya!

Hi all~
Things have been busy here on my end. Working on this new piece for MonkeyHouse show called "Shave & A Haircut"! It looks like lots of fun! I will post some images of my painting soon, but for now, here is the flyer for the show! Check it out~

Other than that, I am working on some freelance and 1 or 2 other paintings for an upcoming show. Busy bee~ I'm also recovering from a cold and drinking lots of meds. ahhaa....well, enough anyways. It helps with the drawings. teehee...
I've also decided to start a side project with a friend of mine, completely outside the realm of animation or the art world. I just hope we can get it off the ground this year. ^_^ I will talk more about it when it comes to fruition. Till then, mums the word.
On a serious note:
I would like to send a heartfelt hug to the people who went through this terrible and heart wrenching disaster in Japan. I only hope for the future to be brighter and hope many loved ones are found and able to regain peace in this time of need. <3

If you would like to see something of mine or would like to suggest a design for me to create, feel free to let me know. I will do my best to create it and post it up, dedicated to you. ^_^

Hello All~ I'm sorry it's taken me awhile to post, I kinda took a break. I know I should have mentioned it, but I hope this makes up for it. I did a little piece for an up coming show in Japan called "Lil Rolla Doll" Show. It's a 3" high resign figure that you can paint anything you want on it. This was my take.

Title: A Flower for you a Pumpkin for me

Debut: Oct. 25th Little Rolla Show in Japan
through PaintMonster Co.
It was pretty fun to paint so small. Hopefully they like it. ^_^

In the meantime, I am working on some larger pieces, on wood, that will be in a 5 person show in January 2011. So I will try to post as I go this time. Maybe some part of them anyways. Thanks for stopping by and checking it out. More soon! Peace~

"A Day at the Park" Handpainted Munny for Nick/PPPK

This is an original hand painted Munny Doll for Nickelodeon Virtual Worlds/ PetPetPark.com. I was commissioned to do this piece for their booth at Comic-Con this year. The are going to raffle it off this weekend. The characters are from the Pet Pet park online game, painted in acrylic and the munny is vinyl. ^_^ This is a full turn-around of the doll. It was actually pretty fun to do, but took a long time to paint. I'm think I may do another one for myself....hehee. In the meantime, I am now working on painting some BGs for a short and working on some more designs.
Thanks for looking! Copyright Dee Chavez 2010/ Nickelodeon Virtual Worlds
===UPDATE===
Added was a picture taken at the Nick Booth during Comic Con 2010. The one standing next to mine was done by Mike Baylis, another awesome artist I work with. ;)
