RibbitRover is swimming your way!

HI! I have been pretty busy with work and all, so it took me a while to get this one done and up for show. So here it is! It's called RibbitRover and it's acrylic on wood with stained wood edging. I like the way this one turned out. I wasn't to happy with it at the beginning, because it had similar colors as the sketch. It was way to bright to be an underwater scene (I thought anyways). SO, during the process of making this painting I fiddled around some more with glazes and washes and darkened it up a bit. I was trying to do something light and colorful, but it eventually always turns dark. Maybe the next one, maybe not. Anyways, it was fun and that's really all that matters, right! So, this piece is part of a series focused around this dog character named Rooz(temp. name).

The first picture, is just after I finished it, before the varnish. I thought I would show my easel set up and my sketch reference to show how different my colors turned out. Maybe next time I will show some various stages of my process. This piece is about 12" in diameter round and has a polyurethane varnish as you can see in the 2nd picture, to seal in all the paint goodness. hehee...
I am currently working on the 2nd painting and hope to have it up soon, work permitting....;)
Thanks for visiting and all your great comments! Cheers!

Your blog continues to be one of my favorites. The development sketches below are fun and colorful and your paintings just shine! Golly, I'm gushing! Btw, I like the name 'Rooz'. Drat! I have to get off my can and start drawing again, but two jobs and the daily hassles of life tend to keep on busy....
Anyway, thx for the inspiration!
